I have drawn up a diagram of two wedding photography timelines. Click on the image to the right to view a full-size version of the diagram. The second timeline shows how wedding days normally end up. What follows is a tongue-in-cheek walk-through. It goes awry from early on when hairdressers or make-up artists overrun their allocated time. They arrive late and then fuss over you for ages becuase you are their walking advert. We then rush to church and you never get to relax for a while on your own. As you scurry to church, you see a lot of the guests are arriving late and you have to hide in the bushes untill all of them have entered the church. The priest/pastor/reverend/etc wants to give you an awesome message you can base your marriage on and repeats every point a couple of times to drive it home. After the long ceremony all the guests want to congratulate you and hear how it feels to be married at last - and why shouldn't they?! As we get ready to start with the family photos we find out that your hubby's parents have already left for the reception hall. OK, so we'll do the family shots later during the reception. Now we have to get going in order to be back in time because your guests don't want to stand around too long and you have arranged for the reception to start nice and early. After your short photo session, as we are still busy testing the difficult lighting conditions in the reception hall and setting up equipment, you come rushing in. Oh, what a lovely surprise! The reception starts and everybody wants to have their say. Your uncle lists highlights from your dad's life in facinating detail. After dinner you are kept busy going from table to table and when we try to get all family members together for your family portraits, we struggle to get your brother away from the bar. When we do have all of them together at last, most do not feel like posing for shots because they are hot and bothered and wondering if there is broccoli between their teeth. By now we have already booked an extra hour and when we ask if we should stay for yet another hour to get some shots of your first dance, you feel too awkward to tell us that you have not budgeted for it and quickly try to squeeze in all the formailites in a couple of minutes. This does not happen - you have to wash your face and repair make-up because your tipsy new hubby smeared your face and hair with wedding cake. When all is done and dusted we feel a bit shell-shocked and after saying goodbye we stumble back to our car - wondering whose bright idea it was to do wedding photography...
